Coll Audio was founded in 1986, originally as a part time venture. During the early years, some of the artists we supplied backline for included: Gregg Allman, Big Brother & The Holding Company, BTO, Ten Years After, The Strawberry Alarm Clock, David Allen Coe, Mick Taylor, & Joe Walsh.
By 1990, more attention was required and the hobby became a career. The first full time, full stage we supplied was a July 1, 1990 Canada Day show for The Beach Boys, in Grand Falls Newfoundland, a 3 day truck ride for the gear, and a 5 hour flight & drive combo for the crew.
Some other highlights of that first year include: Billy Preston, Ray Charles, L7, and many others whose names are obscured by time.
Also notable was the simultaneous full time launch of Coll Audio, with the start of a rather nasty recession, an event which caused many sleepless nights and was a major source of concern throughout our formative years. Despite the odds, hard work and perseverance has paid off, as we are now the largest rental house in Canada, supplying backline to an ever growing list of Record Companies, TV & Film Productions, Recording Projects, Promoters, Venues, and Touring Bands from around the world.
We have managed to out-grow 4 warehouses in our almost 20 full time years of operation.
The past two decades have provided us with the opportunity of meeting a whole lot of really nice people from every corner of the world. We have friends scattered everywhere, who are always welcome to call, fax, e-mail, or drop in to visit us whenever they can. People who we've only ever met on a concert stage, or in a club, or on the other end of the phone. Each and every one has played a major role in our survival and our success. To them we say a very heartfelt thank you, and to those of you who are joining us for the first time, sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride.
