Associate Principal Flutist of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Julie Ranti has been with the TSO since 1985, when she was its youngest member at the time.
She grew up in Montreal in a musical family: her mother is a harpist, her father was Principal Trumpet of the OSM, and her brother is a bassoonist with the Boston Symphony. Julie got her early training with Jeanne Baxtresser in Montreal before attending the Juilliard School and studying with the legendary Julius Baker.
Julie enjoys teaching students of all ages, and has been a faculty member of the Royal Conservatory, National Youth Orchestra, and National Music Camp. She looks forward to returning to IMC, where her father taught for many years while she enjoyed happy summers as a camper, and where the most recent camper in the family was her daughter, now Principal Bassoonist of the Regina Symphony.
