Band and Orchestra (Saxophone)

Chelsea Shanoff is a Canadian saxophonist and health researcher. Chelsea has performed with notable groups such as Thin Edge New Music Collective, the National Ballet Orchestra, Niagara Symphony Orchestra, Esprit Orchestra, Contact Contemporary Ensemble, the Bicycle Opera Project, Toy Piano Composers, and Caution Tape Sound Collective. Chelsea is on faculty at the University of Toronto where she teaches applied lessons to saxophonists, leads masterclasses, and coaches chamber groups. She is also on faculty at Interprovincial Music Camp and has been a
guest artist at Waterloo Regional Contemporary Music Sessions.

Chelsea is currently completing her Doctorate of Musical Arts Degree at the University of Toronto, where she is focusing her studies on performance-related injuries. She is the recipient of the 2018 Alice G. Brandfonbrener Young Investigator Award and will be presenting at the 2019 Performing Arts Medicine Association Conference in Los Angeles. As a certified yoga instructor, Chelsea has led injury prevention workshops for musicians at numerous high schools, universities, conferences, and children’s youth choirs. She also teaches yoga to patients and staff at St. Joseph’s Health Centre in Toronto.

Chelsea received her Masters of Music from Arizona State University, where she studied saxophone performance with Dr. Timothy McAllister. She completed her Bachelors of Music in Performance from the University of Toronto studying with Dr. Wallace Halladay.
