
Bass Trombone
Isabelle Lavoie
Isabelle Lavoie is an active bass trombonist based in Winnipeg and Toronto. She has performed with many orchestras in Canada and abroad, including the Canadian Opera Company, National Ballet of Canada, Toronto Symphony, National Arts Centre Orchestra, Macao Orchestra, and the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra.
Ms. Lavoie recently played as guest bass trombonist with the Canadian Opera Company Orchestra for the 2022-2025 seasons. Previously, she was Acting Principal Bass Trombone with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra in 2018-2019 and 2022-2023. She also held the positions of Principal Trombone with the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra and Trombone Instructor at Lakehead University in 2016-2017.
Isabelle was a featured artist and clinician at the 2017 International Trombone Festival, and was a performer at several other editions of the festival. Additionally, she has been involved with Monarch Brass and the International Women’s Brass Conference since 2012, as well as the Canadian Women's Brass Collective since 2019.
As a jazz musician, Isabelle can be heard on several recordings including Juno Award nominated “Connections - East Meets West” with the Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra, and “Then is Now Rhapsody in Blue”, recorded at the Banff Centre with Jens Lindemann and the Matt Catingub All Star Jazzpops Orchestra. She was also selected to be a member of the Canadian National Jazz Orchestra in 2022.
Ms. Lavoie has worked with many students over the years as a private teacher, clinician, and coach of chamber music and grand ensembles. She has been a faculty member at numerous summer camps and residencies, including the Domaine Forget International Music and Dance Academy, where she will be returning to in 2026. Isabelle holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of Montreal and an Artist Diploma from The Glenn Gould School of the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto.
