Peter Kadar
In a career spanning over three decades, Peter has performed and recorded with over seventy major Canadian and U.S. artists in every genre imaginable. His career began as a teenager sneaking into blues clubs in his hometown of Windsor and eventually Detroit, where he was fortunate to play with and learn from many of the old masters who shaped the sound of Motown and beyond. Soon, he was working with both Canadian and U.S. based bands on a regular basis.
Eventually, Peter sought more knowledge so he attended Humber College’s esteemed Jazz Keyboard Program where he was fortunate to study with legends like Don Thompson, Armas (Art) Maiste, Pat Labarbera, and many others. It was during this period that Peter also met and subsequently studied with jazz legend Barry Harris, attending his many Toronto workshops for over a decade, even travelling to Den Haag, Netherlands for a two week intensive workshop. He also began studying classical voice with Alan Reid for over eight years.
Since the early 2000’s, Peter has been one of the busiest, most in- demand keyboard players in Toronto. After nearly a decade of performing
both solo and with numerous artists, Peter decided to return to school to get his B. Mus. from Humber College. His degree was half performance, where he studied with master virtuoso Hilario Duran, and half audio engineering, where he studied with Ian Terry and Peter Cook. Peter Is passionate about passing on knowledge. In addition to having a thriving private lesson studio, he has been a professor and musical director at Sheridan College in their Musical Theatre program since the early 2000’s.
After living in Toronto for over twenty five years, Peter moved to Hamilton where he built his new recording studio, Hammer Action. He continues to work with many of Canada’s top artists, having had long associations with Alan Frew of Glass Tiger, Suzie McNeil, and Jarvis Church, for whom he was also Music Director. He’s been a member of Amanda Marshall’s band for over fifteen years, and has been a sub with classic rock band Lighthouse for the last decade before finally becoming a full member in January of this year.
