Rob Hiemstra

Guitar

Rob writes, records and performs his own music for his surf rock project Chairmen Of The Boards, plays and sings for numerous cover acts and as a solo performer in and outside of the Greater Toronto Area and teaches private lessons on guitar, bass and piano at his own studio in East Toronto.

Growing up surrounded by classical music, he took piano for 10 years which gave him the foundation to teach himself to play guitar, bass and drums, switching between all 3 throughout his teens years. After graduating high school, he entered the Humber College Jazz program as a piano/keyboard major but soon realized guitar to be his chief calling. Thus began his decades long adventure of teaching guitar, bass and piano, playing and singing solo and in many different cover bands, hosting open jams, recording and performing original music, and playing in tribute bands, in and outside of the Greater Toronto Area, in 9 provinces, plus a couple of extended out of country stints in icy cold Finland and sunny beautiful Bermuda.

Over his career he has played alongside band members of Blue Rodeo, Jann Arden, Blackie & The Rodeo Kings, Alana Myles, Big Sugar, Cory Hart, Prairie Oyster, Platinum Blonde, Wild T & The Spirit, and Frozen Ghost. Sharing his great passion for music with audiences and students alike continues to be a thoroughly enjoyable and rewarding way of life for Rob.
